LaVerne is survived by her children, Jeff Jones of Waukee and Kristie (Neil) Dierks of Clive: three granddaughters, Mackenzie Dierks, Madison Dierks and Meredith Dierks her siblings, Carole Barlean of Booneville, Gale (Jeanne) Hodson of Altoona, and Dean Hodson of Cummings and her sisters-in-law, Virgie Hodson and Dixie Hodson, and brother-in-law Gerald Soper. LaVerne served two terms on the Waukee School Board and had been a Girl Scout Leader for 13 years. Camping with Harry and her family was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed painting, sewing and quilting. LaVerne had her own beauty salon before becoming an upholsterer and teaching ceramics out of her home.
